Baby Girl recently had Woodsy Owl visit her at school. She did not care for him, she says, because it turns out that it’s just a “guy in a costume”. Apparently, Woodsy is back in full force with Smokey Bear inspiring children to discover and care for the natural resources.

The second I heard the words “Woodsy Owl”, I burst out into song:

Give a hoot, don’t pollute. Never be a dirty bird. In the city or in the woods.... help keep Americaaaaa looking good. Hoot hoot.

C’mon, tell me you’ve heard it before. {crickets chirping}

Yeah, no one I knew had heard of it either.

It was driving me crazy that no one was aware of this jingle besides me. Turns out that I did not make it up because I found it on youtube! Thank you internets!

Now I’m disturbed though, because Woody’s voice sounds just like the dude who did Winnie the Pooh. That will bother me for a while until I have the time to research whether it’s the same guy or not.

FYI... I knew the song! In fact, I was wondering about what ever happened to him, Smokey is everywhere, but no Woodsie..I am glad they are bringing him back!

I did know the song, and sang it when I read it! And the name of the man is Sterling Holloway, and he was the voice of Woodsy and 70's Pooh.

Aww. You make me nostalgic. He was also the voice of Kaa in Jungle Book, another of my favorites!

I've seen this post a couple of times, but missed where you said he sounded like Pooh, and didn't even notice myself that he sounded like Pooh...but it had to be him. I guess Tracy knows the facts up there. I didn't look it up, but I'd know that voice anywhere. One of my favorite characters...I even have Eeyore tattooed on my ankle. :o)
